Get the right equipment for safe riding

Before you set off for the bikepark, make sure you’re properly equipped. If you have your own mountain bike, be sure to check its general condition. Replace worn or broken parts, bleed your brakes, change your brake pads, oil your chain, grease your bearings… Keep your components in good condition and clean to guarantee the longevity of your bike! If you don’t feel like a handyman, or if you don’t have the right tools, call in a professional mechanic who will be happy to carry out your maintenance.

If you don’t have your own bike, ask in one of the resort’s shops for advice on hiring the mountain bike best suited to your level and riding style.

Don’t forget your protective gear!

Mountain biking can be a dangerous sport, so it’s advisable to wear suitable protection to limit the risk of injury. A full-face helmet is compulsory if you want to ride in the bike park, but we also recommend that you wear a full set of protective equipment, including a back protector or full-face waistcoat, knee pads, elbow pads, gloves and a mask to protect your eyes from mud.

Mountain bike clothing (shorts or cycling trousers, technical jersey) is also recommended for greater comfort. Avoid street clothes and loose-fitting outerwear that can catch on branches or on the bike.

Watch out for the weather!

In the mountains, the weather can change very quickly. That’s why we advise you to bring rainwear and a mackintosh, and sun cream if it’s sunny. You should also bring warm clothing if necessary.

Take your backpack

If you want to set off on an adventure and explore the Portes du Soleil, a backpack is an essential companion for your day’s mountain biking. Don’t forget to pack a few tools, such as a chain adjuster and quick link, spanner spanners, a spare inner tube and a small hand pump, to avoid any problems during your outing. And don’t forget to take something to eat and some water to keep your strength up and stay hydrated, especially in the sun!

Warming up is key!

Now you’re ready to take on the bikepark! But before you hit the slopes, take a few minutes to warm up. Do a few shoulder, arm, wrist, neck, pelvis and leg rotation exercises.

Once you’ve warmed up, start gently on a simple slope. Don’t rush off onto a demanding course. First do some scouting, avoiding jumps and obstacles, to get a feel for the terrain before taking on the full challenge of the trails, especially those with a technical profile!

Listen to your body and know your limits

We all know: riding is pure pleasure. It’s about sharing unforgettable moments with friends or family and having an incredible experience in a dream setting. But to keep the dream alive, you need to know when to stop!

Don’t hesitate to take breaks. Stop for a few moments in a suitable area, off the slopes for everyone’s safety. Drink water regularly to stay hydrated, especially in the heat. Relax on a terrace with a cool drink, regain your strength and finish your day’s riding at the first sign of fatigue. Your body will thank you!

Here’s our tips for a successful mountain bike session! Now all you have to do is prepare for your next 100% fun, 100% adrenalin session in Les Gets, the place to bike!
