The Tour du Mont Chéry is the route that separates the Sunday bikers from the real mountaineers. It gets off to a flying start at the top of the gondola for a loop that takes you all the way around this legendary summit.

The route is a perfect mix: small technical paths in the undergrowth where you need a good eye to choose your route, and wide paths in the alpine pastures where you can let off some steam (and admire the view). The 400m climb isn’t just for show: the restarts are hard and require you to manage your effort. This is ‘old school’ mountain biking in the best sense of the word: wild, varied and rewarding. The final 700 m descent to the village is the icing on the cake.

Expert advice

The team’s advice

The “Relance” tip: Don’t get trapped by the panorama! Keep your pace on the uphill sections, as the terrain on the Chéry is often slippery (pebbles and dry earth). A good rear tyre with pedalling grip is a real plus here.

The “Check” tip: Before tackling the descent to the village, take advantage of the high point to check your brakes. The Chéry heats up the brake pads faster than you might think. And keep an eye on the sky: on this exposed slope, thunderstorms arrive quickly at the end of the day!
