Discover Eco-actions in the Les Gets resort for more sustainable tourism

In order to preserve our mountain environment, a number of eco-actions have been taken throughout the village and the ski area, in winter and summer.

Les Gets is committed for an unspoilt natural environment

Fully aware of the richness and fragility of its natural and human environment, Les Gets has for years been committed to sustainable tourism. Here, harmony goes hand in hand with a gentle way of life, with the aim of preserving and promoting this remarkable heritage, which is the common heritage of the people of Les Gets and a vector of the area’s identity.

Our approach is in line with the territorial policy of the Haut Chablais Community of Communes (Haut-Chablais Interco) and its environmental initiatives.

With its eco-tourism philosophy and positioning, the resort aims to enhance and preserve its mountain environment. As part of a comprehensive approach, a number of initiatives have been put in place on the ski area and in the village, including soft mobility, a wood-fired heating system that supplies 12 community buildings, the distribution of pocket ashtrays, electric bikes and mountain bikes in summer, new-generation snow guns that consume less energy, and events that limit our environmental footprint.

Soft mobility to get around Les Gets

In Les Gets, you can get around in an environmentally-friendly way. Like GetsLib’, self-service electric bikes that make it easy to get around the resort and the surrounding area.

An eco-golf course An environmental pioneer

With 18 holes offering 18 exceptional panoramic views of Mont Blanc, Les Gets golf course is first and foremost an environmental pioneer thanks to its many eco-responsible initiatives.

Protecting the Black Grouse emblematic species

The ski area and the commune of Les Gets are working together to protect the Tétras-Lyre, a species of bird that is emblematic of the Alps.

    • Wood-fired boiler: Set up in 2000, the boiler runs on wood chips and supplies heat to 12 local authority buildings via a network more than a kilometre long.
    • New-generation snow guns that consume less energy.
    • Reducing the energy impact of ski lifts. Timing of certain ski lifts: to avoid repetitive stops, certain lifts operate at very low speed, which limits their energy consumption.
    • Equipping the Chéry Nord radio relay with solar panels.
    • Installation of presence detectors for heating and lighting in the new premises and in the stations of the detachable ski lifts.
  • Waste
    • Refuse collection in several village resorts
    • Smoke-free ski area and butt-free village
    • Annual rubbish collection day in the ski area
    • Optimisation of voluntary drop-off points
    • Purchase of eco-cups under guarantee during events

    • Production of artificial snow without additives
    • Use of biodegradable oil for snow groomers
    • Eco-friendly purchases at Solegets, the golf course and the Tourist Office
  • Governance
    • Labelling of eco-responsible accommodation (furnished accommodation and hotels).
    • Raising customer awareness through the accommodation on offer and seasonal events and activities.
    • Involvement of socio-professionals (geothermal energy, heat pumps, organic wines, local produce, organic ski cleaning products, etc.).
    • Participation in European programmes and environmental initiatives alongside partners such as Ademe, Priorieterre, Mountain Riders, Clim’Alp Tour, Université Savoie Mont Blanc, etc.
    • Creation of eco-events: preservation of host sites, provisioning with local products, use of recycled or PEFC paper, waste sorting, shows, events on the theme of the environment, etc. like the Quatre Eléments festival.
  • Water
    • Rigorous water management, reservoir reserved for drinking water.
    • Inventory and action plan to preserve the wetlands in the municipality.
    • Summer earthworks to ensure that the ground slopes gradually and the snow cover is more even. The aim is to reduce the workload of the snow groomers and the production of artificial snow.
    • Re-sodding of the ski area in summer: to protect the soil against erosion, blend the slopes into the landscape, better fix the snow cover, restore biodiversity…
  • Nature
    • Creation of a black grouse protection zone and public awareness panels for protected fauna.
    • The Plateau de Loëx, a protected natural area with restricted access: the Plateau de Loëx forms a superb natural ensemble, both in terms of landscape and biology. The NATURA 2000 site covers an area of 1,233 hectares in 3 communes: Les Gets, Taninges and Verchaix. In order to preserve the site, access to the capercaillie enhanced protection zone is prohibited from 1 January to 15 May and during snowy periods.
    • Creation of the Père Delavay botanical garden.
    • The Chablais is part of a European Geopark initiative under the aegis of UNESCO, and Les Gets is a stakeholder in this programme. A Geopark is an area of geological heritage of ecological, historical and cultural interest, which holidaymakers and locals are invited to discover. The creation of a Geotrail is an essential part of this programme. This is a route linking around twenty remarkable geological sites. The aim is to offer a fun way to explore the geological heritage of a particular area.

Les Gets is one of the sites with a rich geological identity. The Tourbières educational trail is located around the wetlands near the Lac des Ecoles. Accessible to all, this free walk can be enjoyed by all the family with the help of information panels set up along the footpath explaining the specific nature of the peat bogs in Les Gets.

  • Digital data

Every year, Les Gets Tourisme takes part in the “One week to clean up your data” challenge. In 2025, over 100 GB of data was deleted from our servers, saving 2 tonnes of CO2.
