This route is a real test of your climbing skills. Starting in Les Gets, you can warm up on the descent to Taninges before tackling the first big climb: the Col de la Ramaz. With gradients of over 9% and a spectacular crossing of the Sommand tunnel, this is a climb classified as either hors catégorie or 1ère catégorie, depending on the event.
After passing through the resort of Praz de Lys, you head down into the valley before immediately tackling the Col de l’Encrenaz. Although shorter, the Encrenaz remains a challenge, with its regular 7% gradients that put a strain on bodies already tested by the Ramaz. The return to Les Gets takes place in a wild setting, perfect for savouring the end of this memorable outing.
A little extra “Relance”: The Col de la Ramaz is particularly tough in the afternoon sun. Try to climb it in the morning to take advantage of the cooler conditions. Be careful to manage your gear ratio in the last few kilometres before the summit, where the gradient is steepest.
Equipment: Make sure you have good brakes for the technical descent from La Ramaz to the Giffre valley. You’ll also need a sturdy refreshment pack and two water bottles, as the sequence of two passes leaves little time for recovery.
