Route description

The route starts in the heart of the Chavannes massif. It’s an accessible route, ideal for all-terrain pushchairs or young walkers.

  • Departure point: Follow the signs for La Mouille au Blé (Aval). The path progresses gently over even, gently sloping terrain.
  • Panoramic break: Approximately 200 metres before you reach the lake, you’ll find a panoramic viewpoint. Equipped with picnic tables, it’s the perfect place to stop and take in the scenery.
  • The lake: Once you’ve reached the Lac du Plan du Rocher, a small loop allows you to walk around the lake to admire the reflections of the peaks.
  • The return: The return journey follows the same path as the outward journey, taking you effortlessly back to your starting point.

Heritage & Nature

Keep your eyes peeled! The scenery you pass through is not only beautiful, it’s full of secrets and age-old traditions:

  • The Lac du Plan du Rocher: This lake occupies a “glacial depression”. Thousands of years ago, when the glaciers retreated, the relief was sculpted, leaving these natural hollows on the Chavannes plateau, which then filled up with water.
  • The “Mouilles”: In Savoyard dialect, a “mouille” is a damp area or spongy ground. On this slope, water stagnates on the flats, creating mountain marshes that are essential to local biodiversity (and where you may be lucky enough to spot the famous tadpoles that give their name to the trail!)
