The best places to admire the autumn colours in Les Gets

As summer gently draws to a close, the landscapes of Les Gets gradually take on a new look. The intense greens fade, gradually giving way to yellows, ochres and reds. The peaks regain their tranquillity and the autumn light envelops the mountains in a very special atmosphere.

This is probably one of the most beautiful times of the year to take the time to explore the trails, whether with a camera in hand or simply with your eyes wide open.

So, where should you go to enjoy this unforgettable spectacle? Here are some of our favourite spots for taking in the autumn scenery in Les Gets.

Mount Caly The classic route facing Mont Blanc

It’s hard to talk about the most beautiful views in Les Gets without starting with Mont Caly.

Perched above the village, this little alpine hamlet is one of the must-visit spots for taking in the views from above. Once you arrive, the landscape opens up to reveal the Mont Blanc massif, whilst the surrounding forests and alpine pastures gradually take on their autumnal colours. The site is, in fact, one of the destination’s most iconic photo spots.

At this time of year, the contrast is particularly striking: warm, reddish hues meet the rocky peaks in the background, sometimes dusted with the first glistening snowflakes.

A little extra tip: if you head up to Mont Caly at the end of the day, when the sky is clear, the fading light will allow you to watch Mont Blanc light up, lending the landscape even more intense shades of colour.

📸 For photography: opt for dawn or dusk to make the most of the softer light.

Mont Chéry A bird’s-eye view of Les Gets

Its trails alternate between forest paths, mountain pastures and ridges, offering numerous views of the surrounding mountains of the Mont Blanc and Chablais ranges. The routes in the area allow you, in particular, to walk with the Mont Blanc massif in front of you before crossing through more wooded areas where autumn is at its most spectacular.

It is precisely this diversity that makes the Mont Chéry area particularly interesting in autumn: the scenery changes within just a few metres of elevation gain!

Between Mont Chéry and Mont Caly

To extend the experience, head for the paths linking the heights of Mont Chéry to Mont Caly. This area offers you a real vantage point over the mountains of the Mont Blanc massif. The routes alternate between open stretches and sections through the woodland, offering stunning views of the ‘roof of Europe’. In autumn, each section has its own distinct atmosphere: at times bright and airy in the mountain pastures, and at others more intimate as the path winds its way beneath the trees.

Chavannes and Ranfoilly amidst mountain ridges and forests

A different side of the mountain means a different atmosphere!

Over towards Les Chavannes and Ranfoilly, the wide-open spaces allow you to take in the autumnal colours on a whole new scale. From the most open areas, the view stretches towards the ridges of La Rosta, the Pointe de la Turche, the Pic du Marcelly, Mont Caly, Uble and Mont Chéry.

Further down, the paths wind their way through wooded areas. It is often here that autumn is at its most spectacular: yellow, russet, brown, green… the different tree species create a veritable natural mosaic.

The Col de l'Encrenaz for a wilder atmosphere

Fancy getting a bit further away?

As you skirt round Mont Chéry towards the Col de l’Encrenaz, the landscape becomes wilder. The Grand Tour du Mont Chéry crosses the northern slope of the massif before reaching this area, set amidst a woodland atmosphere very different from the wide-open alpine pastures of Mont Caly.

In autumn, this mix of forests, clearings and the surrounding hills makes for a truly beautiful area to explore.

From certain parts of the northern slope of Mont Chéry, gaps in the forest also reveal the Roc d’Enfer and the Praz de Lys.

It’s an ideal spot if you prefer and are looking for a more secluded and contemplative atmosphere.
