Why Les Gets? Is it one of the best places to start out in skiing or snowboarding?

Learning to ski or snowboard for the first time isn’t something you can just wing it! Between the nerves of those first runs, choosing the right kit and the fear of not being able to keep up with your family and friends, choosing the right ski resort to start out in plays a vital role in your learning experience and your holiday in the mountains.

There are destinations where everything is designed to make your first turns as easy as possible. Nestled in Haute-Savoie, at the heart of the Franco-Swiss Portes du Soleil ski area, the resort of Les Gets has everything you need to learn to ski or snowboard in the best possible conditions: accessible runs, gentle slopes, secure learning areas, fun zones and ski passes specially tailored for beginners.

Whether you want to introduce your children to the joys of the snow, try out snowboarding or learn to ski as an adult, discover why Les Gets is the perfect starting point for your new passion!

A wide selection of green runs and blue ones, so they can progress at their own pace

With 74 runs spread over 120 kilometres, the Les Gets-Morzine ski area offers a wonderful variety of terrain to help skiers and snowboarders progress.

As a beginner, there’s nothing better than starting out in the beginners’ areas and then gradually moving on to the green and blue runs to build your confidence, practise your first turns and discover the thrill of skiing or snowboarding.

Thanks to the P’tite Glisse ski pass, which on its own gives you access to 13 runs – including 6 green runs, 6 blue runs – and the resort’s fun zones, you’ll be able to enjoy more runs and see your progress day by day.

Play areas in Les Gets Learning while having fun

What if learning to ski became a real game?

In Les Gets, learning isn’t just about technical exercises. The ski area features 15 fun zones where you can discover skiing in a whole new way, through various courses, activities and experiences on the snow.

Gentle terrain and gradual slopes The ideal place to take your first steps on the slopes

When you’re learning to ski or snowboard, the choice of terrain makes all the difference.

Unlike the more technical areas of some high-altitude resorts, the Chavannes slope in Les Gets offers wide open spaces and gentle gradients, which are particularly ideal for experiencing the thrill of gliding for the first time.

This layout allows you to tackle the different stages of learning to ski with greater confidence:

  • Finding your balance and getting to grips with your equipment
  • Learning to control your speed and brake on the snow
  • Making your first turns
  • Gradually gaining confidence on suitable slopes

The advantage? Being able to move from a beginners’ area to slightly longer or more technical slopes without rushing things.

And once you’ve mastered the basics, the Les Gets-Morzine ski area and then the Portes du Soleil offer plenty of opportunities to continue improving.

Safe learning environments to build confidence

Taking your first turns amongst experienced skiers can sometimes be daunting. That’s why Les Gets has specially designated areas where beginners can learn at their own pace, away from the busiest slopes.

The Espace des Mappys: an area entirely dedicated to first-time skiers

Situated on the Chavannes plateau, the Espace des Mappys is a genuine learning ground for beginner skiers.

This free area offers:

4 gently sloping runs.
2 magic carpets.
1 tow rope.
1 rope tow.
A quiet environment, away from the hustle and bustle of the main slopes.
Thanks to its specially adapted facilities, everyone can practise the basic techniques, learn to control their direction and build confidence before joining the rest of the ski area.

Another advantage: the area is also accessible to pedestrians. Parents, friends and accompanying adults can therefore come along to cheer on the budding skiers and share in their first successes.

To benefit from supervised instruction, several ski schools and instructors also offer group or private lessons, suitable for both children and adults, in skiing or snowboarding.

The P'tite Glisse package specially designed for beginners

In Les Gets, beginners can take advantage of pricing tailored to their level thanks to the ‘P’tite Glisse’ pass, designed to help them discover the joys of the mountains without necessarily having access to the entire ski area.

This pass gives you access to:

  • 12 ski lifts
  • 13 slopes: including 6 green, 6 blue and 1 red slope
  • A choice of durations to suit your stay: 1, 3 or 6 days

For the 2026–2027 winter season, the adult P’tite Glisse pass is available from €30.50 per day (at the ticket office) and €28.50 (online).

The 1st Ski Festival An event designed for adult beginners

Have you always dreamt of learning to ski, but never plucked up the courage to give it a go? Are you worried you’ll end up on the beginners’ slopes surrounded by five-year-olds who can already ski better than you?

In Les Gets, we’ve organised an event especially for you!

From 20 to 27 March 2027, the 1st Ski Festival returns for its second edition: a week dedicated to adults who want to discover skiing or snowboarding, without any pressure and in a friendly atmosphere.

The concept is simple: to bring together beginners, share the early learning experience and enjoy a genuine mountain holiday.

A ski-in, ski-out village resort for a hassle-free winter break

When you’re just starting out with skiing or snowboarding, carrying your kit, walking in ski boots or taking multiple shuttle bus journeys can quickly turn into a bit of an adventure in itself.

One of the great advantages of Les Gets lies precisely in its village-resort layout, nestled at the foot of the slopes.

Here, the village and the ski area are one and the same. Many accommodation options offer easy access to the slopes, whilst shops, hire outlets, restaurants and services are all within easy reach in the heart of the resort.

This proximity makes organising your first holiday much easier:

  • Reaching the ski lifts without having to make multiple trips.
  • Take a break in the village between skiing sessions.
  • Easily meet up with your loved ones, even if not everyone skis.
  • Enjoy the restaurants, shops and entertainment after a day on the slopes.

And because a mountain holiday isn’t just about skiing, Les Gets also offers a wide range of activities to keep things interesting: all-year-round tobogganing, walks, cultural experiences, wellness treatments and culinary delights.

A resort where people come not only to learn to ski, but also to make the most of their first holiday in the snow!
