Route description

A gentle route along wide paths, ideal for children and contemplative walkers.

  1. Departure point: Turn left off the Mont Chéry cable car. Allow yourself a first contemplative pause in front of the Belvédère orientation table to identify the massifs.
  2. Towards infinity: Follow the path on the right towards Mont Chéry. At the “Devant Chéry” crossroads, continue straight ahead following the signs to Mont Caly. You’ll be walking past solar system stations.
  3. A break in the stars: At “Dessus Mont Caly”, after a further hundred metres or so, a picnic area awaits you. It’s the perfect place to take a break with a breathtaking view of the Mont-Blanc range.
  4. The return via the hamlets: Descend to the heart of the Mont Caly hamlet to begin the return to the Belvedere via the peaceful Fontanelles and Bron areas.

Grand Voyageur” option (+ 2.2 km): You can choose to extend the adventure by covering the entire Planet Trail as far as the hamlet of Lassare. You can then return to the village either on foot via Les Longues Poses, or in the comfort of the resort’s free shuttle buses.

Heritage & Nature

Take advantage of your breaks to observe the traces of the past along your route:

  • The Path of the Planets: A unique curiosity in the resort! On this educational trail, every metre covered by your feet actually represents a million kilometres in space. A fascinating way to visualise the astronomical distances between the Sun and its planets.
  • Hamlet and chapel of Mont Caly: Perched at 1,489 metres, this traditional alpine hamlet welcomes herds of cattle every summer in search of fat grass. Its small chapel, built in 1679, was demolished the same year following fierce disputes between neighbours over mountain pasture boundaries. It was proudly rebuilt by the villagers in 1986.

To make the most of the experience, here’s the little secret that the locals share: pack your lunch in your rucksack, motivate the children by looking for the next planet (Jupiter, Saturn…) along the way, and sit down at the picnic area at Dessus Mont Caly. The views here are quite simply some of the best in the resort, and you won’t have to exert yourself. But don’t forget your cap, as the path is very sunny!
