Route description

This intelligent route alternates between sunny balcony paths and immersive plunges into the heart of the forest.

  • The panoramic start: From the Parking des Places, start by climbing towards the authentic hamlet of Mont Caly. Take in the first views before heading off along a magnificent balcony path towards the Col de l’Encrenaz.
  • A plunge into the wild: After a short stretch of road at the pass, leave the asphalt and plunge into the intense coolness of the forest. The path descends to Les Plattes, the lowest point of your hike.
  • The forest ascent: To finish off this sun-sheltered loop, the path climbs steadily upwards through the secret undergrowth of the reverse side of the Chéry to bring you back to your starting point.
Belvedere” option: At Mont Caly, extend the pleasure by joining the picnic area and viewpoint just above the hamlet.

Heritage & Nature

The scenery you pass through is not only beautiful, it’s full of secrets and age-old traditions:

  • Hameau du Mont Caly: Perched at an altitude of 1,489 metres, this hamlet is a picture postcard of pastoral life. Every summer, it comes alive to the rhythm of the herds from Les Gets that come here in search of fat, fragrant mountain pasture grass.
  • La Chapelle du Mont Caly (A story of neighbours): Originally built in 1679, this chapel was demolished… the same year! The cause? Violent disputes between neighbours and mountain pasture owners. Proof of the tenacity of the locals, it was faithfully rebuilt on the same spot in 1986 by the villagers.
  • The Path of the Planets: Part of the sector crosses this spectacular educational trail, where every metre walked is equivalent to a million kilometres in space. It’s a magical way to learn about the solar system on a human scale.
