This tour is a real compendium of the best the region has to offer. It gets off to a gentle start with a quick descent to Morzine to warm up the legs. The “hook” at Lac de Montriond is the visual highlight of the route: a majestic round trip at the foot of breathtaking cliffs.

The real sporting challenge begins at kilometre 19 in Les Granges. You then begin the ascent to La Côte d’Arbroz, the gateway to the Col de l’Encrenaz. With a 6.5km climb at an average gradient of 7%, this pass is a wild and demanding playground. The reward? A breathtaking view from the summit (1432 m) before completing the loop towards Les Gets.

Expert advice

  • Photo bonus: Don’t miss the break on the banks of Lac de Montriond. It’s the perfect time to hydrate before tackling the almost 500m of ascent to the summit of Encrenaz.
  • Gear ratios: The ascent of Encrenaz is steady, but there are some parts that can sting if you give too much at the start. A soft gear will enable you to keep up a good pace and take full advantage of the alpine scenery.
